What is a Board Plan?

A Board Plan refers to the meal plan part of Room & Board.  All residents are required to select a meal plan option.   

What are Swipes?

A swipe is each use of your Star Card to purchase a meal. It deducts one meal from your resident meal plan weekly balance or commuter meal plan balance.

How do Swipes work?

A swipe deducts a meal from your resident or commuter meal plan. 

Do I have to use all my available Meal Swipes each week? 

Resident meal swipes reset every Sunday. Unused swipes do not roll over, so use them regularly throughout the week to get the best value for your meal plan.

What are Meal Plan Dining Dollars? 

Meal Plan Dining Dollars are prepaid funds included with resident meal plans. They work like a debit card for dining purchases and expire at the end of each semester.

How many Meal Plan Dollars can I use per week? 

You may use up to $100 in Meal Plan Dining Dollars per week.

Where can I use my Meal Plan Dollars or DU Dollars? 

Use Meal Plan Dining Dollars or DU Dollars in the Dining Hall, the Crown Café (formerly Cyber Café), or with DU To GO for meals, snacks, beverages and other dining items.

What is a Meal Exchange? 

A meal exchange equals one meal swipe.

Can I use my Resident Meal Plan or Commuter Meal Plan at the Crown Café (formerly Cyber Café)? 

Yes. Crown Café meals may be purchased with one meal exchange or swipe.

What are DU Dollars? 

DU Dollars are prepaid dining funds that can be added to any Star Card and used in the Dining Hall, Crown Cafe, or with DU To GO.

DU Dollars are tax-free and do not expire.

Can a Commuter purchase a Meal Plan?

Yes. Commuter students, staff and faculty may choose from three commuter meal plans, which can be used in the Dining Hall, Crown Cafe, or with DU To GO. Plans expire at semester end.

Does purchasing a Commuter Meal Plan save money? 

Yes. Commuter meal plans save between $5 and $60 compared to the per-meal rate.

Can I purchase a meal to-go in the Main Dining Hall? 

Yes. Purchase a reusable to-go container for a one-time $10 fee, then use a swipe to take a Dining Hall meal to-go.

How do I change my meal plan? 

Students may change meal plans only during the first two weeks of the semester.

Do you have meal plans during the Summer? 

Summer dining plans are not offered.

DU Dollars are recommended during Summer dining hours.
