What is a Board Plan?
A Board Plan refers to the meal plan part of Room & Board. All residents are required to select a meal plan option.
What are Swipes?
Swipes are what it’s called when you use your Star Card (student ID) by either tapping, scanning or swiping your card to purchase a meal. That meal is deducted from your available number of meals for the week on your selected resident meal plan or from the total meal balance on your commuter meal plan.
How do Swipes work?
A swipe deducts a meal from your resident or commuter meal plan.
Do I have to use all my available Meal Swipes each week?
Resident meal plans are designed to reset each week on Sunday morning. Unused meal swipes do NOT roll over to the next week. We encourage you to use your swipes regularly to get the most value out of your meal plan.
What are Meal Plan Dollars?
Meal Plan Dollars are a prepaid dining currency included as part of your Resident Meal Plan. Meal plan dollars work like a debit card. Each time you use meal plan dollars to pay for items, it will deduct that amount from your balance for the semester. You can use meal plan dollars to purchase a beverage or quick snack during the day or any other items on offer at either of the dining locations. Meal plan dollars expire at the end of each semester.
How many Meal Plan Dollars can I use per week?
A weekly spending limit of $100 dollars is the maximum amount that can be used to purchase items through dining services.
Where can I use my Meal Plan Dollars or DU Dollars?
You may use your Meal Plan Dollars or DU Dollars at either campus dining location, the Main Dining Hall or the Cyber Café, and when ordering DU To GO. Both the meal plan dollars and dining dollars can be used to purchase meals, snacks, beverages, or other food or retail items offered by dining services.
What is a Meal Exchange?
A meal exchange is the equivalent of (1) board meal or (1) meal plan meal or (1) meal swipe.
Can I use my Resident Meal Plan or Commuter Meal Plan at the Cyber Café?
The Cyber Cafe offers a variety of menu items that can be purchased using (1) meal exchange or swipe.
Breakfast Meal Exchange: a breakfast sandwich, whole fruit or fruit cup, & juice, tea, or coffee.
Lunch Meal Exchange: your choice of (1) sandwich, soup or salad, (1) side of whole fruit, fruit cup or a bag of chips, and (1) beverage – soda, tea or bottled water.
What are DU Dollars?
DU Dollars are similar to meal plan dollars but not attached to a meal plan. They are a prepaid dining currency that you can add to your DU Dining account via the Stars Connect Office, via the GET App, or on the web. DU Dollars can be used at the Main Dining Hall, the Cyber Café or with DU To GO.
DU Dollars are tax exempt and they do NOT expire!
Can a Commuter purchase a Meal Plan?
Yes! There are (3) different commuter meal plans available. Commuter meal plans can be used at both campus dining locations and while ordering DU To GO. Visit the Meal Plans page for pricing, ways to purchase and more information. Commuter meal plans expire at the end of each semester.
Does purchasing a Commuter Meal Plan save money?
Yes! By purchasing the Commuter Meal Plan you will save between $10-$80 per plan on average compared to paying per meal.
Can I purchase a meal to-go in the Main Dining Hall?
Yes! Purchase a reusable to-go container for one time cost of $10.00. This will allow you to use a swipe, fill your container, and enjoy your meal wherever you’d like! Each time you return your container, we will exchange it for a clean one to be used at that visit.
How do I change my meal plan?
Students may change their meal plan during the first 2 weeks of the semester only.
Do you have meal plans during the Summer?
Summer dining plans are not offered.
DU Dollars are a great option during the summer when we have reduced dining days & hours.
